Good care keeps your jewellery bright for decades. A few simple habits make all the difference.
Everyday habits
Last on, first off. Put jewellery on after perfume, make-up and lotion. Take it off before bed.
Avoid water and chemicals. Remove pieces before swimming, showering, cleaning or the gym. Chlorine and sweat dull metal and stones.
Store separately. Keep each piece in its own pouch or box. Diamonds can scratch other stones and gold.
Cleaning
Gold with diamonds or hard gems (emerald excepted): soak in warm water with a drop of mild soap, brush gently with a soft toothbrush, rinse, pat dry.
Emerald, turquoise, pearl and mother of pearl: wipe only with a soft damp cloth. Never soak them and never use ultrasonic cleaners.
Silver: polish with a silver cloth to remove tarnish.
Stone by stone
Pearls love being worn — skin keeps them lustrous. Keep them away from perfume.
Amethyst and citrine can fade in strong sun over time. Store them away from direct light.
Turquoise is soft and porous. Keep it dry and away from oils.
